A collection of pants, designed and sewn by me in studio. This is a collection of pants that I made for myself in my quest to expand my knowledge on patternmaking and push my creative abilities
Helical Pants
The helical pants were an exploration in patterning, and expanding my knowledge of pattering. The traditional front panel back panel design of pants is broken down, as i opt for a helical deisgn where the front panel morphs into the back panel as it goes from waist to hem. The back panel follows suit mirroring the morphing of the front panel in order to create a finsih garment that holds the shape of a normal pair of pants.
Twisted Jeans
A secondary expirement in twisted pants. the first was the helical pants which was an exploration into the twisting of a pants pattern. This challenge was exploring ways to force the fabric itself to twist. This was achieved by pair a front panel designed very similarly to the helical pant pattern with a typical back panel of similar volume. forcing both the patterns to fight for area on the backside of the legs. The result is a pair of pants that twists inwards and backwards. a curving silhoutte that mimics the bending of the knee.
Pin Pleat Jeans
These jeans explore silhouette and the roll that pleating can play in that. the pleats are exaggerated and extended to have them play a larger role in the overall shape of the pants. The pants consist of a kissing pleat, or inverted box pleat that runs from the front pocket down to just above the knee, where it is pinned down by rivets before fully opening up.
Whisker Pleat Pants
The whisker pleat pants is another experiment inaltering the silhoutte with the exasggerating and augmenting of pleats. In this design 3 pleats shoot out from the hip , and release at different places throughtout the pants. the pleats extend from the waist in a radial pattern instead of the typical dart design which runs perpendicular to the wiastline.
Bottom Pleated Jeans
Inspired by the mathmatical "pair of pants" used in topology. These pants explore what it would be like to do the decomposition of a torus and create a wearable pair of pants based off of it. The end result is a pair of pants that resembles the shape of a torus, that is then distorted when forced into the shape of human legs by the wearer of the garment.
Selvedge "Piped" Jeans
The whisker pleat pants is another experiment inaltering the silhoutte with the exasggerating and augmenting of pleats. In this design 3 pleats shoot out from the hip , and release at different places throughtout the pants. the pleats extend from the waist in a radial pattern instead of the typical dart design which runs perpendicular to the wiastline.
Torus Jeans
Inspired by the mathmatical "pair of pants" used in topology. These pants explore what it would be like to do the decomposition of a torus and create a wearable pair of pants based off of it. The end result is a pair of pants that resembles the shape of a torus, that is then distorted when forced into the shape of human legs by the wearer of the garment.
